Saturn or Jupiter SATA Enclosure and/or Cradle Compatibility Configuration with SiI3124 and SiI3132

This document identifies a registry key to make the Saturn or Jupiter SATA enclosure and/or cradle function correctly when connected to a SATA host controller with Silicon Image chipsets SiI3124 and SiI3132.

Instructions:

1. Identify the IDENTITY DATA of the hard drive connected to the host controller. There are two methods to obtain the IDENTITY DATA of the drive; one method is during the boot up sequence, and the other is in the SATARAID5 Manager in Windows.

During Boot Sequence
Wait for the RAID BIOS screen to appear, and copy down the IDENTITY DATA as shown in the image below.

Inside Windows
Make sure no hard drives enclosed inside a Saturn or Jupiter Enclosure are attached to the host controller during bootup. After booting into Windows, connect the drive or drives you wish to use with the Saturn or Jupiter Enclosure. Open the SATARAID5 (Array Manager) in Windows XP. Select Device from the menu at the top, then Device Summary. A window should appear showing the hard drives currently connected to your host controller. The IDENTITY DATA should be shown in the Model list.

2. Open Windows Registry, go to Start > Run then type regedit.

3. Select key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\<DRIVER NAME>ProblemDevices

where driver name has the format:
Si<controller id>[r | r5]

controller id = 4 digit part number assigned to controller (ex. 3112, 3114, 3124, 3132)
        (for the 680 controller this should be PnP680)
r = signifies a SATARAID driver (Legacy RAID) capable of RAID levels 0, 1, and 10
r5 = signifies a SATARAID 5 driver capable of RAID levels 0, 1, 5, and 10

If neither r or r5 is specified the driver is a non-RAID driver.

4. For the Problem devices key add a String value (right click, select string value). In the name of the value type the IDENTITY DATA as presented by the SiI31xx BIOS POST during start up.

5. Right click on the created String value and select Modify from the pop-up menu. In the Value data field enter DisableSataQueueing.

6. Close the Windows Registry and reboot your system

Registry Files can be used to simply the process. Click Here to download a zip file containing two registry files; one is for Host Controllers with the Silicon Image Chipset 3124 Raid5, and the other for Host Controllers with the Silicon Image Chipset 3132 Raid5. Extract the registry file for your host controller, right click, and choose Edit. In the Registry file you will see:

"DRIVE A"="DisableSataQueueing"

Change DRIVE A to the IDENTITY DATA of the hard drive you wish to use with the Saturn Enclosure. Additional drives can be added into the Registry File to be tweaked at the same time.

"DRIVE B"="DisableSataQueueing"
"DRIVE C"="DisableSataQueueing"
"DRIVE D"="DisableSataQueueing"
"DRIVE E"="DisableSataQueueing"

After editing the Registry File and saving, run the Registry File and the information should be added to the registry. Reboot the computer and the Saturn or Jupiter Enclosure and drive should be able to be operated.
