NT 4.0 Troubleshooting for Pocket Series (PCMCIA)

This is the step by step routine to troubleshoot your pocket series device inside Windows NT 4.0.

  1. Please disconnect any docking stations or port replicators. Please not that Modems and Networks cards that are installed on the system can prevent the Addonics device from loading. If you are unable to successfully install the device with the modem \ network card installed, please uninstall the card until the Addonics Pocket Series device is loaded successfully.

  2. Make sure that Service Pack 3.0 or greater is installed in the computer.

  3. Use the latest driver for your device. (http://www.addonics.com/support/download/)

  4. Make sure that the driver is installed (go to the control panel then SCSI controllers. Once the window appears, select drivers. You will see the Addonics driver listed there). If the driver is not installed, please install the driver at this point.

  5. Check to see if the computer is recognizing the device. (Go to PCCard in the control panel. It should read SHINING in the socket). If it does not, go to the control panel then devices and make sure that PCMCIA is not disabled. Please note that System Soft Cardworks users should read the READM.NT in NT40 folder of the drivers disk before proceeding.

  6. Highlight SHINING and select PROPERTIES. Click on the DRIVERS tab. It should read that the driver file is STATPNT.SYS). If the computer has something else listed in there, (ex. PATDISK.SYS or ATDISK.SYS) please make sure that there aren't any card services currently running, they are currently interfering with the drive.

  7. Go to the control panel and then double click on devices. Go down to STATPNT. Is the device starter or not.

    STARTED
Go to START\PROGRAMS\NT DIAGNOSTICS\DISK ADMINISTRATOR. If the device appears in here, assign drive letter to the drive (under Tools) If you are unable to, go back to devices and change STATPNT to start on SYSTEM.

    NOT STARTED
Change the device to start on SYSTEM

  8. Go back to the devices icon in the control panel.

    STARTED
Go to START \ PROGRAMS \ NT DIAGNOSTICS \ DISK ADMINISTRATOR. ). If the device has a drive letter assigned to it, go to my computer and the drive will appear here. If the device appears in here, assign drive letter to the drive (under Tools). If you are unable assign the drive letter, use the power adapter for the device and reboot. If it still will not allow you to assign a drive letter, proceed to STEP 8.

    NOT STARTED
    Proceed to step 8.

  9. Click on START \ RUN, type in sysedit. When the editor comes up, go to H_KEY LOCAL

MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CURRENT CONTROL SET \ SERVICES \ PCMCIA (when you highlight PCMCIA look to the right column). You will see INTERRUPT MASK. Change the value to one of the following values. You will need to reboot to have the change take effect.

    a. 5a81 To obtain different values, please read the README.NT

    b. 5101 in the NT40 folder of the drivers floppy disk.

    c. 5301

    d. 5f01

    e. 9181

In between each value, go to the control panel then double click on devices. See if STATPNT starts. When STATPNT starts go back to STEP 7. Repeat until the drive appears.
