How do I install my operating system using the DVD?
Since most installation disks do not have PCMCIA support you will
need to install your operating system a little differently. You will
need to load the DVD using DOS. Make sure that the DVD is set to 16bit
PCMCIA mode. Either install the DVD on the hard drive or use a BOOTDISK.
To install the DVD to the hard drive, please refer to the installation
instructions. To create a bootdisk, please refer to "Creating a Bootdisk."
Once you have the DVD loaded copy the corresponding directory from
the CDto the hard drive and install the operating system from the
hard drive.
Make a directory on the hard drive (md 'DIRECTORY NAME' ie. MD win)
Go to the CD-ROM. You will want to change directories to the corresponding
operating system (CD 'DIRECTORY NAME' ie. Cd win)
Windows 95: WIN95
Windows 98: WIN98
Windows NT4.0: I386
Windows 2000: I386
Type in Copy *.* c:\'DIRECTORY NAME' ex. Copy *.* c:\win)
Go to the hard drive (c: ) and change directory( CD 'DIRECTORY NAME
ie. CD win)
Type in the corresponding command to begin the install of the operating
system.
Windows 95: SETUP
Windows 98: SETUP
Windows NT4.0: WINNT /B
Windows 2000: WINNT /B

How do I create a DOS BOOTDISK?
Please follow the steps below in order.
1. You will need to create a bootable floppy disk. From the DOS prompt
type in
FORMAT /S A:.
2. Copy the MSCDEX.EXE to the floppy disk. This file is a MICROSOFT
copyrighted file. You can find it on any Windows computer and on Windows
installation floppy disks.
3. Download BOOTDISK.EXE from the drivers page and copy it to the
floppy.
4. Execute BOOTDISK (Either double click on BOOTDISK or at the
A:\ prompt type in BOOTDISK.
5. Restart the computer with the floppy disk inserted.

During the installation of the DOS drivers ( DOSSETUP ), it loops
into a circle and won't install.
During the installation, enter the source and destination. When you
have to select the device to install, highlight CD-ROM and hit the
SPACE BAR to select the driver. A block will appear next to CDROM.
Hit ENTER to proceed and the installation will complete.

MSCDEX tries to load but I get a "File not found" error message.
Make sure that there is a copy of the MSCDEX.EXE in the C:\DOS directory.
If not, copy the MSCDEX.EXE into that directory or using a text editor,
change the path in the AUTOEXEC.BAT for the MSCDEX.EXE to the correct
one on the computer.

You will need a text editor. Create/Edit the following files with
the corresponding drive lines for each file.

How do I play audio CDs with my DVD?
All CD-ROMs require an audio cable from the CD-ROM to the sound card.

1. Make sure that the light on top of the DVD is green. If red, attach

2. Make sure that the DVD is snapped completely down over the retainer
ring.

I get a fatal exception on esdi.vxd when I try to use the DVD.
It is a known problem in Windows 95. You will need to go to Microsoft's
page and look up the article Q153471. The patch file to download is
called REMIDEUP.EXE.

I get the error message "Can't get IO address" when I boot.
You have a DOS card service loading in the CONFIG.SYS. Using a text
editor, edit the CONFIG.SYS and place REM before each card service
line.

I get the error message "No CIS detected" when I boot.
The enabler that the DVD is using will not work with your computer.
You will need to install the DOS Card Services for you computer. Please
contact your computer manufacturer to obtain copy of this program
if you do not have them already.

I have SHINING detected in the socket not STANDARD IDE/ESDI HARD
DISK CONTROLLER.
Windows did not detect the proper driver. Go to the device manager
and open the hard disk controllers category. Double click on SHINING
and select the drivers tab. Choose UPDATE/CHANGE DRIVER. Let Windows
search. If it is unable to find it manually find it. The driver is
the STANDARD IDE/ESDI HARD DISK CONTROLLER. Once it reports that it
is selected, choose OK or Close until back to the main device manager
screen.

I have PCI MASS STORAGE DEVICE detected in the socket not the Addonics
CARDBUS Controller.
Windows did not detect the proper driver. Go to the device manager
and open the hard disk controllers category. Double click on PCI MASS
STORAGE DEVICE and select the drivers tab.Choose UPDATE/CHANGE DRIVER.
Point the search to the A:\WIN95 folder on the driver diskette and
day OK. Windows will prompt you through updating of the drivers.

I'm trying to power the DVD off the socket but it won't work.
Please make sure the switch in the rear of the drive is set to PCMCIA.
Also, make sure that the PC-Card is set to the 16bit PMCCIA mode.
You will have a green light on the top of the drive is there is sufficient
power. If the switch is set to PCMCIA, both on the cable and the rear
of the drive and the light is red, you will need external power. To
make sure if you computer should be able to power the DVD off the
socket, please compare the power requirements to what you computer's
sockets provide. If you have the switch set to the 32bit CARDBUS mode
you will need to use the power adapter.

I can't open the tray, it just keeps clicking.
The tray release is mis-aligned. This is a physical defect.

I can't open the tray, it doesn't even try to eject the tray.
The PC-Card needs to be initialized in order for the tray to open.
You can use the manual emergency tray release ( the small hole on
the face of the DVD ). Use a paper clip or like object to release
the tray.

PC-Card does not autodetect
Make sure that the card is facing the correct direction (using with
the blue Addonics label UP).Insert the card into the socket. Make
sure it is securely placed the entire way into the socket. Try all
sockets. Make sure that the sockets are properly loaded. In DOS it
will report no PCCARD found. In Windows 9x go to the control panel
then double click on PCCARD to see what is in the computer's sockets.
If it is unable to detect, the socket will read SOCKET 1 or SOCKET
2.
In Window NT go to the control panel then double click on PCCARD to
see what is in the computer's sockets. If it is unable to read it
won't reports anything there in the socket.

DVD is install in WIN 9x but there isn't any driver letter for the
CD-ROM
Please follow the steps below:
1. Make sure that the light on the DVD is green.
2. Make sure that PCCARD properties report
16 bit PCMCIA Mode: STANDARD IDE/ESDI HARD DISK

3. Make sure that the DOS drivers are not install in the AUTOEXEC.BAT

4. Go to the device manager. Make sure that there are no yellow or
red flags. If there are, please resolve the conflicts/errors.
5. Go to hard disk controllers and double click on the corresponding
listing form the PCCARD properties. (either STANDARD IDE/ESDI HARD
DISK CONTROLLER or ADDONICS CARDBUS CONTROLLER) Go to the RESOURCES
tab and click on it. Make sure that the Interrupt Request is set to
9, 10, or 11. ( To change the IRQ, take the check out of USE AUTOMATIC
SETTINGS and double click on Interrupt Request. A box will appear
to set the IRQ )

I have a conflict on the driver, how do I get rid of it.
First, go to the device manager and double click on COMPUTER at the
top of the list. Take note of the IRQs in the list that are missing.
You will need an IRQ from 9-11 for the CD-ROM to work. If none are
free, you will need to move what is listed there to make room. Once
you have a place for the DVD, go to the hard disk controllers in the
device manager. Double click on either the STANDARD IDE/ESDI HARD
DISK CONTROLLER (16bit PCMCIA Mode) or the ADDONICS CARDBUS CONTROLLER
(32bit CARDUS Mode). Go to the RESOURCES tab and click on it. Make
sure that the Interrupt Request is set to the free IRQ. ( To change
the IRQ, take the check out of USE AUTOMATIC SETTINGS and double click
on Interrupt Request. A box will appear to set the IRQ ).

When I install the DVD in NT 4.0, I get 'STATPNT failed to start'
in the event viewer.

When I install the DVD in NT 4.0, I get 'STATPNT has an overlapping
I/O region with SCSI_PORT#
The drive is conflicting with the port that it is attached. You can
try to eliminate the error message by going to START\RUN\SYSEDIT.
Go to H_KEY LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENT CONTROL SET\SERVICES\PCMCIA.
With PCMCIA highlighted, go to the right side and double click on
INTERRUPT MASK. A value box will appear with the current value. Change
it to read 5A81. If that does not get rid of the message and the drive
still works, there is no other way to eliminate the message. If the
DVD is not functioning, please refer to NT 4.0 Troubleshooting.

STATPNT is started but I don't get a drive letter.
Go to the disk administrator and assign the drive letter (under Tools).
If you are unable to, go to the control panel and double click on
devices. Go down to STATPNT and set it to SYSTEM. If it starts again
and does not appear, go to disk administrator and assign the drive
letter (under Tools). If you are still unable to assign the drive
letter, please refer to the NT 4.0 Troubleshooting.

I'm using my DVD through the USB port and the drive letter is not
loading but the drivers are installed.
Make sure that the cabling is secure. The DVD will need AC/DC power.
Set the switch on the rear of the drive to AC/DC and attach the power
adapter. The power adapter and switch need to be set properly on the
DVD before attaching it to the computer. Lastly, make sure that you
are using the latest drivers from

The DVD can't load in DOS with the USB connection. DOS does not support
USB. You will need to use the PCMCIA cable (part # APCMCIA or ACARDBUS)
for the DVD to install the operating system.

Will my USB DVD work in NT 4.0 , DOS, Windows 3.1 and Windows95 or
Windows CE?
USB is not a supported technology in DOS, Windows 3.1, or NT 4.0.
Windows95 did not originally support USB. The patch does allow USB
support in 95 but is not stable enough to run the DVD. At the present
time, there aren't any Windows CE drivers for USB.

I'm trying to play VCD's off of your DVD
You will need a separate decoding program to run the VCD discs. The
Cyberlink software included with the drive should decode VCD discs
for you.

I'm trying to load mount the DVD in LINUX.
The switch on the PCCard will need to be set to the 16bit PCMCIA
Mode. Make sure that the computer has PCMCIA support installed. When
you insert the driver it will report what it detects. To mount the
drive type in MOUNT /DEV/HD? /MNT/CDROM. '?' is the location of the
drive when it's detected on the IDE Bus. The command above will mount
the drive to the /MNT/CDROM directory

Load the DVD using DOS (either a bootdisk or on the hard drive) Once
the DVD loads in DOS, copy the LINUX install CD to the hard drive.
Follow the instructions on how to install LINUX using the install
CD.

How do I watch my DVD movies?
You will need to install a DVD interface/decoding program. The Cyberlink
Power DVD is included with your DVD. Install the software. Run the
Power DVD programs from the start menu. When the interface comes up
you will see a control dial on the right side. In the center is the
PLAY button, Simply insert the DVD movie and allow it to spin up.
Press the play button and enjoy the movie.

Make sure that PCCard is set to the 32bit CARDBUS Mode. Below are
some steps that you may apply. Results may vary from computer to computer.

1. Defragment the Hard Drive
Step 1: Go to My Computer
Step 2: Right Click on the C: drive and select Properties
Step 3: Go to the Tools tab

3. CTRL + ALT + DEL and end task on everything except SYSTRAY and
EXPLORER before launching the DVD player. The only things that Windows
(95/98) need to run is Explorer and Systray. Anything else in the
list is using CPU time and resources. To eliminate the other programs,
highlight it and select end task. Repeat the process until the only
things left is Explorer and Systray.
4. Set the VCache in the SYSTEM.INI
Step 1: Go to Start and select Run
Step 2: Type in sysedit (that is the only thing on the line) and
Click on OK
Step 3: At the top it should read System Configuration Editor, Go
toWindow and select SYSTEM.INI
Step 4: Go to Search and select Find
Step 5: Search for VCACHE and click on NEXT
Step 6: It should go to a section the reads[vcache]
Step 7: Go to the next line and set the [vcache] to read
MinFileCache=1024
MaxFileCache=8192
Step 8: Click on the X on the upper right hand corner. Say yes to
savethe changes to the text. Restart the computer for the changes
totake effect
5. Don't run the movie in the FULL SCREEN mode. Try running the movie
in a smallerscreen size. It should run faster for you because there
is less area for thecomputer and video card to redraw.
6. 32-bit Card Bus
32 bit cards transfer data at a faster than the 16bit cards. Before
proceeding, contact you computer manufacturer to see if your computer
supports 32bit cards. If the computer does not, this is not an option
for you.
7. Enable DMA translation for the DVD drive. You will be able to decrease
the work load to the computer, thus increasing the performance. DMA
support will depend on the physical setup of the PCMCIA sockets for
your computer. To check for DMA support on your computer follow these
steps.
Step 1: Right click on My Computer and select Properties
Step 2: Click on the Device Manager tab
Step 3: Click on the plus sign to the left of CD-ROM
Step 4: Double click on the DVD listing
Step 5: Click on the Settings Tab
Step 6: Make sure that DMA is checked
8. Use a decoder card
The decoder card will allow the hardware to decode the DVD files.
A decoder card will help reduce the workload of the computer. Please
contact your computer manufacturer before purchasing a decoder card
for compatibility issues.
