Addonics ExDrive SATA35 is the simplest and most affordable external hard drive kit for Serial ATA hard drive. Comes bundled with a unique AC/DC power adapter and a 3-foot heavily shield external Serial ATA data cable, the Addonics ExDrive SATA35 drive kit easily turns any 3.5" Serial ATA hard drive into an external Serial ATA hard drive.

To meet the needs of the various application environments and to match the color of your equipment, the ExDrive SATA35 offer the enclosures in tough aluminum construction or in light weight ABS plastic with a choice of black or ivory color. Optional drive cradles can also be installed into any desktop PC to use this ExDrive SATA35 hard drive as a hot swap removable hard drive.

(1) Serial ATA hot swap feature works only with controllers basing on Silicon Image chip set from our inhouse testing. Other controllers that are not Silicon Image based may not support hot swap. You may consider adding one of the Addonics Serial ATA host controllers to your systems to ensure the hot swap capability. New controllers from Intel and other suppliers may finally support this feature. Please verify with your controller manufacturer if you need to have hot swap in your application. Hot swap is supported in Windows 2000 and XP only. On other OS, drive can be removed without crashing system. But replacing with a different drive can result in crashing the OS.

Part number and Price

* Since the eSATA connector is new to the market, connecting cable with this new connector may not be readily available. Addonics offers a complete cabling solution for External SATA applications. All Addonics external SATA cables are constructed with metal clips on the connectors for reliable repetitive insertion and tighter connection needed for external application. These cables are also heavily shield and wired to increase EMI protection and ensure SATA signal integrity in external application over a 2 meter distance.

Option 1: External SATA (eSATA) - SATA converter cable (model AASA2SAP15C, 15 cm.) plus External SATA data cable (model AASAEDC3F, 100 cm.)

The 15 cm. cable (AASA2SAP15C) converts the new eSATA connector back to standard SATA External connector plug. Together with the standard 100 cm. External SATA cable (AASAEDC3F), SATA storage device can then be connected to this controller. This combination gives the flexibility of connecting any external SATA device to this 4 -Port External SATA controller, or *PVR and Set Top Box to the standard SATA ports that are commonly found in most of today's SATA equipped systems.

Option 2: eSATA - SATA cable (AASA2SA100C, 100 cm.)

One end of this this cable has the new eSATA connector for connecting to eSATA port on external eSATA controller, *PVR or Set Top Box. The opposite end has the standard SATA connector for connecting to SATA hard drive or other external SATA storage devices that has standard SATA connector.

*At the present time, some PVRs (a few models from TiVo) and Set Top Boxes are equipped with this new eSATA connector.
