Printable Version Diamond Cipher Hard Drive Kit Overview - introducing new AES 256-bit hardware encryption   eNova X-Wall 128-bit TDES

AES 256-bit Hardware encryption • Rugged aluminum construction
•  Direct SATA bridge • Compact size

Diamond Cipher Hard Drive Kit

The 256-bit AES hardware encryption incorporated inside the Diamond Cipher enclosure is the most secured storage solution available in the market today, far beyond the security of the TDES 192-bit encryption. Diamond Cipher enclosure is also the first enclosure solution in the market that provides native SATA encryption on the fly with no detectable performance degradation to the hard drive. Designed with same concept as our field proven Saturn and Jupiter Cipher drive kit, the Diamond Cipher drive kit is simple to implement. There is no password to remember, no software or driver needed, no special training is need. The best of all, the Diamond Cipher drive kit is 100% OS transparent for easy implementation into any computing environment for absolute data security.

Besides the strong encryption feature, the Diamond Cipher drive kit has every feature of our regular Diamond drive kit. The Diamond Cipher drive enclosure can be easily attached to any computer externally via the high performance eSATA port or used like a drive cartridge in the Diamond drive cradle mounted inside a standard 5 ¼” drive bay. The SATA direct bridge in the drive enclosure also isolates the SATA hard drive power and data connectors from the wears and tears incurred in some of the removable SATA hard drive system. As long as you have the correct Cipher key with you, the hard drive inside the Diamond Cipher drive enclosure can practically be accessed by any computer via eSATA or USB connection (using the Addonics USB - eSATA adapter). You can also install any 2.5" SATA hard drive into into the Diamond Cipher drive enclosure using the optional 2.5" hard drive mounting bracket. The Diamond Cipher drive enclosure also shares the same drive cradle and accessories as the standard Diamond drive kit.

By utilizing a wide assortment of Addonics IO converters, cables and accessories, both the Diamond Cipher drive enclosure and cradle offers almost unlimited connection and installation possibilities to fit the need of your storage application. The flexibility and adaptive features of the Diamond Cipher drive kit enable you to start with the minimum components that you need for your storage application, then add the necessary components as your application grows or changes. Constructed in heavy gauge aluminum with precision finish for smooth operation, the Diamond Cipher drive kit is built to last while at the same time providing excellent heat dissipation for the hard drive.

7/20/07 "Heat-sapping aluminum and eSATA support mark this evolutionary removable hard drive system from Addonics. Install it in a drive bay with a SATA hard drive (not included), and you’ll have a hard drive you can remove for security or sneakernetting. "

Product features

Encryption features (for Diamond Cipher only)

  • Full disk encryption via a hardware-based NIST & CSE certified cryptographic AES engine
  • High performance - Data is encrypted and decrypted on the fly by a certified cryptographic engine inside an ASIC without taking any CPU resources
  • Encryption / Decryption via a hardware key  , just like using a regular key to open a door.
To enable the encryption and access the drive, simply insert the Cipher key into the keyhole of the Diamond Cipher enclosure prior to turn on the power.
  • Simple to deploy with no training required, no software to install and no password to remember
  • Platform independency - There is no software or driver to install to use Addonics encryption products. As a result, it can be deployed in any systems running any OS. This is important in organization with multi platform computing and legacy systems.

Drive enclosures features

  • eSATA connector for external eSATA connection
  • regular SATA connector for use as an internal hot-swap removable hard drive in a 5 1/4" drive bay with optional Diamond Drive Cradle
  • Hard drive connectors are isolated by a SATA direct bridge from wear and tear in removable drive application
  • Support large hard drive beyond 137G with single partition.
  • No interface cabling between drive and enclosure for reliable connection.
  • No switch to set between internal and external hard drive application
  • Compact size for easy transportation - slightly larger than a VCR cassette
  • Sturdy aluminum body for use in rough environments
  • Well ventilated design, good heat conduction without fan for quiet operation
  • LED for both power, drive access and Cipher key activation
  • Optional cooling fan available
  • Simple hard drive installation
  • Optional 2.5"/1.8" converter kit
  • OS support in external hard drive mode

The Diamond Cipher drive enclosure and cradle system are designed to work with various Addonics converter boards, cables and accessories. This creates unlimited possibilities in deploying the Diamond drive kits for a wide range of storage applications. Addonics puts together a number of bundled kits to address only some of the common applications. These various bundled kits consist of different drives enclosures, cradles, and power adapters used both internally and externally. Each kit can be expanded by adding other optional components to meet your various application requirement. You can put together your own kit by ordering the necessary components for your application. The various features described in this web page may require additional Diamond parts, cables or adapters that are not included in these bundled kits. Below are a brief overview of some of common storage applications and the necessary Diamond components required for these different applications:

Security Key management for Diamond Cipher

There is no back door for the Diamond Cipher encrypted hard drive if the key is lost or stolen. To ensure there is a spare key, every Diamond Cipher bundled kit comes with one pair of Addonics Cipher keys. If you are ordering the Diamond Cipher enclosure only the first time, we recommend that you order at least 2 keys. One of these keys should be kept in a safe and secure location and can be sent back to Addonics for duplicating additional keys. If you are down to the last key, be sure to make a back up of all the data stored inside your encrypted hard drive prior to sending the last key to Addonics. Addonics is not responsible for key lost in the mail or retrieval of the data inside the encrypted hard drive.

For organization with large deployment, you may consider managing your own keys by investing into a Addonics Cipher key duplicating system.
