The Combo Hard Drive (CHD) USIB25 is the first hard drive
kit solution in the market that enables any standard 2.5" IDE hard
drive to be used like a data cartridge. Using our patent pending USIB
drive cradle that comes with this drive kit, you can instantly install
a hot swap* drive bay into the standard 3.5"
drive bay in any Desktop, Server or computing equipment via USB 2.0, USB
1.1, Firewire or Serial ATA interface without any expensive or complicated
hardware and software.
The same hard drive can also attach externally to a Notebook
or other systems that do not have a drive bay. Unlike other externally hard
drive enclosures that are limited to only one interface, the drive enclosure
in the Combo Hard Drive USIB25 can attach to any computer via USB 2.0/1.1,
Firewire/iLink, CardBus/ PCMCIA, Serial ATA or future interface standards.
You can remove any drive in seconds and share or replace
it with another. Expanding storage options has never been quicker and
transferring data between systems has never been easier. The versatility
of the Combo Hard Drive assures that the data in your hard drive can be
easily accessed by a wide variety of computers, including systems with
legacy hardware and Operating Systems. Using an extended USB cable, you
can even construct a special remote hard disk storage bay in various special
applications.
* Hot swap is limited to USB,
Firewire and Serial ATA under Windows 2000 and XP. See compatibility
summary for different interface in the specification below

* Addonics has successfully tested
using Direct power or BUS Power from USB, PCMCIA or Firewire port on various
brands of Notebook and Desktop computers. It is recommended that you choose
a hard drive that is rated with 500 mA or less to ensure reliable operation
using BUS power. Addonics does not guarantee the hard drive to work with
just the BUS power as the amount of power from these different ports vary
from different system manufacturers. iLink is the Sony Firewire standard
and does not provide power to the peripheral device. Check with your system
manufacturer for detail specification of your Firewire port.
(1) Serial ATA
hot swap feature works only with controllers basing on Silicon Image chip set
from our inhouse testing. Other controllers that are not Silicon Image based may
not support hot swap. You may consider adding one of the
Addonics Serial ATA host controllers to your systems to ensure the hot swap
capability. New controllers from Intel and other suppliers may finally support
this feature. Please verify with your controller manufacturer if you need to have
hot swap in your application. Hot swap is supported in Windows 2000 and XP only.
On other OS, drive can be removed without crashing system. But replacing with
a different drive can result in crashing the OS.
