The new Combo Hard Drive II for Serial ATA hard drive is one of the first hard drive kits in the market that enables any Serial ATA hard drive to be used as a hot swap removable hard drive and as an external Serial ATA hard. Both the drive enclosure and the drive bay are fully constructed with Aluminum for use in harsh and rough handling environment. The tough aluminum enclosure also provides sturdy hard drive protection and efficient heat dissipation for the high RPM Serial ATA hard drive. To match the color of your computers, you also have a choice of black or ivory color.

* Drive access signal is from Serial ATA controller. The primary drive (usually the drive C) cannot be removed from the system.

(1) Serial ATA hot swap feature works only with controllers basing on Silicon Image chip set from our inhouse testing. Other controllers that are not Silicon Image based may not support hot swap. You may consider adding one of the Addonics Serial ATA host controllers to your systems to ensure the hot swap capability. New controllers from Intel and other suppliers may finally support this feature. Please verify with your controller manufacturer if you need to have hot swap in your application. Hot swap is supported in Windows 2000 and XP only. On other OS, drive can be removed without crashing system. But replacing with a different drive can result in crashing the OS.

You can install any hard drive in less than a minute, simply pull out the drive enclosure and follow the procedure below: For more detail, check the user guide.

The drive enclosure can be used as a stand alone external Serial ATA hard drive enclosure with the Addonics AC/DC power adapter and the external SATA cable

External Hard Drive

To connect the enclosure e as an External Serial ATA hard drive, attach the external SATA data cable, the power cable and the power adapter as shown in the picture below.

Removable Hard Drive

To build a hot swap removable Serial ATA hard drive system, install the drive cradle into a 5 1/4" drive bay as shown in the instructions below. You can now use the drive enclosure with the Serial ATA hard drive like a drive cartridge by sliding in and out of the drive cradle, without restarting* your computer.
