-- Mar. 26, 2002 -- Addonics Technologies has cooked up a zero-footprint
version of its external Pocket DigiDrive. The Internal DigiDrive ($69) is a
universal USB flash memory reader that fits into a vacant 3.5-inch drive bay in
any desktop PC.
The DigiDrive's four slots support not one or two but seven types of memory
cards -- CompactFlash I and II, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, MultiMedia Card,
Secure Digital Card, and IBM's Microdrive. Once it's mounted in a bay and
connected to any internal or external USB 1.1 or 2.0 port, an icon for each of
the seven media types automatically appears in Windows' My Computer folder.
Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, and XP are all supported, as are Mac OS 8.6 and Linux
kernel 2.4 and higher. The no-moving-parts drive comes bundled with two USB
cables and driver software.
