Internal 7-in-1 Flash Memory Card Reader Targets PC User Apps
By Mark Long

(e-inSITE) -- Mar. 26, 2002 -- Addonics Technologies has rolled out a universal USB Flash memory card reader that can be mounted into any 3.5-inch drive bay of a PC. Priced at $69 each, the Addonics Internal DigiDrive also includes two USB cables and driver software. In addition, the drive offers support for the Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, XP, Mac OS 8.6 or higher, Linux kernel 2.4 or higher operating systems.

The new device offers support for a total of seven mainstream digital media formats: CF-I, CF-II, Smart Memory, Memory Stick, Micro Drive, Multimedia Card, and Secure Digital Card. As a result PC users will no longer have to worry about which storage platform their PDA or digital camera uses, claims the company, or buy separate card readers for each peripheral to transfer media to the desktop PC environment.

Once the Addonics Internal DigiDrive has been installed in the PC, an icon automatically appears under the My Computer folder for each type of the seven media that the drive supports. Featuring a 1 Mbit/sec read/write speed, the drive integrates four separate slots to accommodate various media types and occupies a standard 3.5-inch drive bay. In addition, the device plugs into any internal or external USB 1.1 or USB 2.0-compliant port to obtain power.
