Announces 24x FireWire/USB-based Combination CDRW/Copier
By Remy Davison
(Insanely

) -- Dec. 8, 2001 -- Addonnics Technologies has announced a FireWire-based
combination CDRW/Copier, designed to operate as a standalone CD copier.
The dual-drive copier allows source CDs to be placed in one drive, and CDR
media in the destination drive, permitting direct disc-to-disc copies without
needing connection to a PC. The Combo CDRW/Copier burns copies at up to 24x, or
at under 4 minutes for a 650MB (74 minute) CD.
The source drive on the Addonics CDRW operates at a claimed 52x, while the
destination drive reads at 40x and rewrites at 10x. Burn-proof technology is
incorporated into the CDRW. The drive automatically detects the type of media
inserted (CDR or CDRW) and burns at maximum speed. The CDRW burns all major
formats, including VideoCD, CD-G and CD-Text.
The drive is bundled with no Mac software, but comes with various Windows
utilities. However, the drive, which is available with FireWire, USB 2.0 or
PCMCIA connectivity, supports the Mac OS when used as a FireWire or USB CDRW.
The FireWire and USB 2.0 versions require OS 9.0 or later. It is not clear
whether the drive is supported under OS X. Both Mac desktops and portables with
USB or FireWire can be used with the CDRW.
The USB 2.0 version is available for $429 (Macs requires a USB 2.0 card for
maximum burn speed) and $469 for the FireWire model.
