intros USB-based Pocket DigiDrive
By Peter Cohen
(Mac

) -- Sept. 18, 2001 -- Storage peripheral maker Addonics Technologies Inc.
today announced the Pocket DigiDrive. It's a pocket-sized device that connects
to your Mac's USB interface and reads and writes to seven different digital
file formats -- CompactFlash I and II media, Smart Memory, Memory Stick, Micro
Drive, MultiMedia Card, and Secure Digital Card.
The Pocket DigiDrive has no moving parts of its own and is powered off the USB
interface itself. It weighs about 11 ounces and measures 4 x 5.5 x 1 inch. The
device can read and write to digital storage cards at about 1MB per second, and
supports Mac OS 8.6 or higher.
List price for the Pocket DigiDrive is US$89. The kit includes a USB
2.0-compatible cable. USB 2.0 is not yet factory-installed on Macs, although
there are third-party peripheral cards that will enable USB 2.0 to work under
Mac OS X. The drive is also downwardly compatible with the more ubiquitous USB
1.1 standard, which Apple supports. The Pocket DigiDrive is available through
major catalog companies, resellers, VARs and distributors.
